Hey all, finally got pics taken of the last thing that I finished. I have a couple of other things on the fire at the moment that I can hopefully get to over the holidays. With prepping for the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show and what not, time might still be mighty slim. Anyway here is a bust of the Joker (not the heath ledger one obviously). It is sculpted primarily in Super Sculpey with some Kato Polyclay added here and there for color and strength. Will try to get some better pics soon, but for now this is what I got.

Posted in Gallery with tags bead museum, bead trader, Sculpts on October 5, 2008 by TommieWell, for a sculptor, this may seem odd but I have a piece on display currently at the Bead Museum in Washington, DC. The theme of the current exhibit is celebrating beads so I created a kind of African bead trader to fit that theme. It made it through the jury process and if you are in DC you can see it at the Bead Museum.
Keeping a Cool Head
Posted in Gallery with tags Blood, Horror, Sculpture on March 22, 2008 by TommieI finished a piece that is going to a friend pretty much immediately. It was inspired by a pair of little glass cubes that she gave me that really look a lot like ice cubes. I figured if they looked like ice cubes full size, they would look just like ice blocks in miniature. I really agonized over just what to put on the ice block and I was watching the news and someone said something about keeping a cool head. I thought, ‘Hell, everyone
needs to keep a cool head around for those times when they lose their own.’
Anyway, Keeping a Cool Head is made from a combination of Super Sculpey and Kato Polyclay. The hair is separated yarn and the blood is a super-secret proprietary mix of many volatile and highly toxic compounds that should only be handled by professionals. (crimson paint, liquid sculpey, and diluent) But, by God, I won’t reveal the proportions! (just mix it all up til it is pretty runny)
Hope you all enjoy this creepy little sculpt.

Indigenous
Posted in Gallery with tags Bust, Indigenous, Sculpture, Warrior on March 4, 2008 by TommieI am calling this piece “Indigenous” because while he is not based on any particular people group… he just kind of developed as a kind of warrior of some kind. Perhaps from some other world all together, he is ready to meet whatever challenges the times may bring.
He is constructed of Kato Polyclay, Super Sculpey, Sculpey Ultralight, and Promat. His face was created from the inside out. It started with a skull and then was built up from there. He wears a ‘buckskin’ outfit with ’stitching.’ His hair is made up of many many twisted ropes of clay. He is on a base that is representative of rocky outcroppings one might see in a desert.
Political caricature.
Posted in Gallery with tags Bush, Caricature, Politics, Sculpture on March 4, 2008 by TommieThis is the first real intentional caricature I have done. I have done little cartoon type stuff but mainly from people in my head. I thought with the political season being so much on the collective mind in the United States… I would do a farewell to the era piece.
Here is Little W. He is constructed of mainly Kato Polyclay, Super Sculpey, and Promat. He has an internal skeleton of aluminum foil, brass rods, and wrapped floral tape. Theme-wise, he is squinting because he is still looking for the WMDs. He holds in one hand his guide to his job. In the other hand he holds the new Redactable Sharpie. This was very handy in taking care of that pesky constitution laying at his feet. He is standing on a faux wood floor in the shape of the Great Republic of Texas!

Hey I actually won…
Posted in Gallery with tags Amaco Challenge, Best in Show, Bottles of Hope, Buddha Sculpt, CHA, Lynne Ann on August 8, 2007 by TommieOkay neighbors, recently I went with Lynne Ann to CHA. It was a good time and I got to meet some new folks and meet back up with some old folks… I am sure they won’t like that way of putting it. One of the top reasons why we attended CHA is that we both had bottles in the top 25 in the Amaco Bottles of Hope Challenge. You can see the ceremony and interviews with me, Lynne Ann, and Cat at www.polymerclayproductions.com if you would like to feel just as if you had been there.
Anyway, Lynne won Best Expression of Hope with her beautiful canework on a black lava rock textured bottle. I was very proud of her. It got down to the wire on awards and the final award was the Designers Choice or Best in Show… and I’ll be damned, Lisa called me up. So I thought maybe someone might want to take a look at my ‘award winning’ bottle. Finally proof that I am more than just a pretty face and an opinionated polymer clay guy.

Chucky!
Posted in Gallery, News and Comment with tags Blood, Horror, New Stuff, Polymer Clay, Sculpting and Modeling, Sculpture on December 17, 2008 by TommieHere is my latest figure. He is made of mostly a mix of Studio by Sculpey and Super Sculpey. The knife is removable and can be repositioned however one likes. Hope you like him.
